Course Pre-work for Module Two

Below is the pre-work that needs to be completed before the course start date.

Prof. George Feiger

'We will be discussing strategic and commercial thinking in the context of a career evolution from the management of a specialised (albeit rather important!) service function to understanding its role within the successful operation of the entire enterprise.

On a personal level, this means transitioning to looking at decisions and actions from the perspective of the CEO. You are attending this programme because you want to make this transition but have questions (presumably based on personal experiences) about how to do it effectively.

I will start with a talk about strategic and commercial thinking, with the expectation that this will prompt a general discussion. It would be helpful if, in preparation, you identified some types of discussions from which you were excluded because others decided that they were of a "business nature" rather than to do with HR, or where business decisions were made, and actions taken which you did not understand or with which you disagreed. We can use these to explore the basic principles with which I will start the session'

Course Pre-work for Module One

Tuesday 20th & Wednesday 21st September 2022

Below is the pre-work that needs to be completed before the course start date:

  1. Meet with your Group HRD sponsor and the Senior line leader that you work with to agree your own development goals and put them within the context of the challenges your organisation is facing. In the first module, we will ask you to start by introducing yourself and your challenges. We see your peer group as a key development resource so it is important that they know what challenges you face. So please be prepared to cover, in no more than 3 minutes, who you are, the challenges you and your organisation face and your development goals. Aim for a concise but specific summary of both the personal and professional elements of these challenges.
  2. Complete your 360 questionnaires and send them to hr.bennett@ntlworld.com
  3. Read the HR Manifesto below.

Course pre-work for Modules Two and Three will be uploaded after the preceding modules.
