This presentation summarises the key themes and ideas from CRF's member meeting - 'Harnessing Innovation to Navigate a Bold but Uncertain Future', which was held in partnership with IMD Business School on 3rd and 4th April 2017. Our main speakers, Professor Bill Fisher and Howard Yu, explored innovation dynamics, speed of change and organisational implications whilst case studies from Sky, Steelcase and W.L. Gore explored innovative practices in their organisations.

The themes include:

  • Innovation dynamics in today’s context
  • Organisation implications of exponential technologies
  • How can we build innovation capacity in our organisations?

In addition, the presentation includes case studies from the following organisations:

  • Sky - looking at Sky's transformation over the years and its view on innovation
  • Steelcase - exploring the concept of office design and why it plays a role in creating and sustaining innovation culture
  • W.L. Gore - looking at W.L. Gore's unique management structure and how it enables innovation in the organisation

PSI - The impact of Emotional Intelligence in the workplace

PSI’s masterclass started by inviting attendees to consider the extent to which agile is being adopted within organisations. Then, using the concept of emotional intelligence, PSI led delegates in an exploration of how mindset can create an agile climate and decrease defensive behaviours. Through an interactive workshop based on a specific work challenge, delegates explored how people need to feel and what beliefs they need to hold in order to be more flexible, adaptable and innovative. The session showed delegates how their organisations can create a journey to agile ways of working – changing how work is done, and leading others to lasting mindset change.
