Lane4 - Disruptive thinking for a disruptive world

Disruption isn’t just tomorrow’s challenge. We need to be able to think disruptively and respond to a rapidly changing business environment, today. Lane4’s latest research shows that the context of business has shifted significantly and what worked in the past for leaders and organisations no longer does. In order to successfully navigate their businesses through an uncertain future, senior leaders need to think and act differently.

PSI - Mindset, EI and the Agile Organisation

PSI’s masterclass started by inviting attendees to consider the extent to which agile is being adopted within organisations. Then, using the concept of emotional intelligence, PSI led delegates in an exploration of how mindset can create an agile climate and decrease defensive behaviours. Through an interactive workshop based on a specific work challenge, delegates explored how people need to feel and what beliefs they need to hold in order to be more flexible, adaptable and innovative. The session showed delegates how their organisations can create a journey to agile ways of working – changing how work is done, and leading others to lasting mindset change.

RHR International- The Greatest Leadership challenge

The Greatest Leadership Challenge - Impacts on how we assess and develop talent Finding those critical few leaders who can set the course for the future and galvanise an organisation to deliver is the single greatest leadership challenge facing businesses today. There is not one organisation that isn’t feeling the pressure from growing market complexity, technological disruption, and an evolving workforce. It is obvious that having the right leadership is critical if organisations are to successfully weather the storm, but what is the real problem that we are trying to solve? Are we defining the problem correctly and then using the right mechanisms to find the answer?

IMD Business School - Unlocking Agility through Purpose and Impact

Agile organisations are both stable and dynamic. Purpose brings stability, a critical attribute to flexibility. Purpose enables company-wide capability to pivot away from static siloed business models into new sources of value. Currently, transformation has become the status quo. From digital, to customer-centric or sustainable business models, change is the order of the day. Agile businesses react quickly when challenged and can transform and adapt. Purpose instils leadership clarity and material strategic priorities that drive business to act.

KPMG - Talent Management for the Future

KPMG’s masterclass explored how organisations can better meet employee and business expectations around workforce in the turbulent world of Industry 4.0 – amidst a shortage of top talent. In the interactive workshop, delegates looked at the use of simple but defined geometric shapes to develop free-flowing, colourful artwork – focussing on how this applies to HR building blocks to deliver brilliant employee experience. Delegates then looked at the effect of Industry 4.0 on the future of work and total workforce management, particularly the changing needs of all types of ‘workers’ and the needs of the business.

Global Economic Outlook - competing for talent

In our first speaker session, Nuria shared the latest news about the global economic outlook. In a word, it’s worrying. The outlook is worsening – growth is slowing all around the globe, and growth projections have declined over the past year for virtually all advanced economies, and emerging ones too. Although emerging economies (especially India) are still growing, growth is slightly less robust than previously forecast; in advanced economies, growth is best described as anaemic, and some economies are already teetering on the brink of technical recession. This is especially true in the UK, where Brexit has already had a negative impact on growth.

Rewards for Speed, Productivity and Agility

Rewards – the purpose of which is to attract, retain, and motivate employees - are the most static HR process. Though potentially a powerful lever for change, in practice they are a force for the status quo – far more often acting as a roadblock to rather than a facilitator of organisational agility. Many reward leaders do not know how reward systems could be otherwise. The academic and business press offer little help; only a handful of articles have ever been published on the topic. Gerry’s session reviewed why rewards have become impediments to dealing with disruption in far too many organisations and offered some prescriptions for making rewards far more adaptive in the future.
