Speed Read: Talent on the Move: Time for a Rethink?
Global Talent Management has emerged as a hot topic in recent years, sparking interest in the effectiveness of efforts to leverage talent globally. Talent can be defined in two categories - key contributors and key skills. Research shows that 30 per cent of international moves are to fill managerial skill gaps, while 24 per cent are to fill technical gaps. Yet Global Talent Management has not yet impacted what organisations do - could this be because talent is poorly defined?
Major changes affecting Global Talent Management, include:
- the globalisation of business
- the shifting workplace
- greater workforce mobility
- the cost of movement
- demographic pressures
How is talent affected on a global scale and what can we do to meet the challenges? Why do people move and what are the options for moving people in the future? Finally, how can organisations be more effective in the future and what recommendations can organisations adapt into their talent management models?
