Research: Work Psychology: Behaviour Change in Organisations

  • November 3, 2025

Every business outcome starts with human behaviour – yet few HR initiatives truly change what people do. This research, authored by CRF Associate Research Director Professor Rob Briner and sponsored by APS, explores how HR leaders can identify, measure and shape the specific behaviours that deliver strategic impact.

The research reveals:

  • What exactly do we mean by ‘behaviour’ and ‘behaviour change’?
  • Which measurable and observable behaviours are most relevant to organisational objectives and how do we find out?
  • How effective are common behaviour change initiatives such as changing attitudes and culture?
  • Which approaches to behaviour change are most likely to work?

In addition to the research, we have created additional related resources to help you better digest the learnings and share across your team.

Research Briefing Deck

This deck condenses the research into a format which can be presented, shared and explored with your wider team who may not have been able to read the full research or attend the associated events.

Audio and Preparation Guides
In these two videos, Prof. Rob Briner explains the Behaviour Change Model from the research and delves into some of the pitfalls of common approaches to behaviour change in organisations.

The printable Pre-Mortem document can support your planning for an organisational behaviour change initiative. Discuss these questions with your team to see where improvements could be made to generate better outcomes.

This research is the final instalment in our 2025 Work Psychology Series. Check out our first two research reports:
