Science tells us that adults learn best when learning is timely, relevant and immediately applicable. AI is also radically changing the ways that we learn at work, from creating personalised career development plans to identifying the most effective ways that different individuals learn, and providing learning content and coaching in the moment. Over two days at IMD Business School, with a networking dinner on the first evening, we will explore what this means for the future of learning, as well as sharing practical examples in an environment conducive to learning, peer exchange and networking.

- Explore the latest tools and technologies, including generative AI, and identify how they can be applied to increase the impact of learning in organisations.
- Have a hands-on experience of designing, developing and applying the latest tools.
- Learn from innovators in the learning field about how they are using emerging technologies in their L&D strategies.

AI in Coaching: Exploring the Possibilities and Limitations

The coaching market is seeing high levels of growth in AI coaching tools and Chatbot therapists. In the coaching arena, where context, nuance, emotional intelligence, and subjectiveness are critical to successful outcomes, how much can AI deliver successful outcomes? AI is meeting a need, being well-reviewed and improving its impact. Indeed, as the technology accelerates at unprecedented rates, the overall belief that AI will replace human thinking varies. It is clear that AI’s logical and fact-based capacities are greater, but how far can AI progress in human capacities such as nuance and empathy? In this breakfast masterclass, RHR explores the pragmatic middle ground and how this relates to impactful leadership development and coaching.

Nicolas Ceasar
Head of Senior Leadership Development and Coaching Centre of Expertise, NatWest Group
Nicolas Ceasar is an executive and team coach and OD consultant. He has made his career about helping leaders to learn, grow and succeed in times of personal, organisational and societal challenge and change. Currently he is Head of The Senior Leadership Development and Coaching Centre of Expertise for NatWest Group where he is responsible for the development of the most senior leaders and leadership groups in the organisation. He is also a board adviser for Ezra, a tech enabled coaching democratisation service and platform. Prior to this he was a member of faculty and a consultant for Ashridge Business School.

Anca Iordache
Career Development Programs & Activation Lead, Microsoft
Anca is an experienced Learning and OD professional, currently in charge of Career Development Programs as part of the Microsoft Employee Skilling Team. In her work, Anca supports leaders and teams to reimagine the way we connect, work and learn. Anca creates value by co-creating human-centered experiences and learning environments that enable knowledge flows and people growth.
Anca has previously led the Future of Work Global Practice for Citi Learning. Over her career, Anca has held various roles at Citi, such as Learning & Performance Advisor, Social Learning & Collaboration Expert, Community Builder, and 70-20-10 Change Maker.

Gavin McQuillan
Head of Learning, NatWest Bank
Gavin is the Head of Learning at NatWest Bank and is based in Edinburgh. Responsible for all aspects of the learning proposition he leads a team focused on unlocking the potential of the organisation by developing and delivering a transformational learning strategy focused on developing colleagues both for the job they do today and the career they want tomorrow. Gavin and the team like to keep things simple and engaging with a clear focus on a enabling a culture where people at NatWest are learning and sharing every day.

Brian Murphy
Senior Director, Employee Skilling, Microsoft
Since joining Microsoft in 2022 Brian has led efforts to re-imagine career development for Microsoft’s Commercial Sales organisation (60,000 colleagues globally). During a transformative period of change for both Microsoft and it’s customers, he and his team are supporting colleagues adapt and thrive through by harnessing the power of skills and a pervasive learning culture. This work is critical in helping Microsoft deliver on its mission to empower every person and every organisation on the planet to achieve more.
Previously, Brian was the Global Head of Learning & Enterprise Capabilities at AstraZeneca from 2019 to 2022. He led a CEO-sponsored Learning Transformation programme, built a new Enterprise Learning team, and led the implementation of a new approach to Performance Development which repositioned colleague development and growth as the main engine for business performance. This coincided with a key moment in the company’s history as it sought to develop and manufacture a global vaccine for COVID 19.
Brian Started his career at the global Bank, Citi, where he held a number of global HR Director roles. From 2014 to 2019 he was the Head of Learning and Leadership Development for Citi in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Brian is a Fellow of the LPI and a Fellow of the CIPD.

Gillian Pillans
Research Director, Corporate Research Forum
Gillian has worked as a senior HR practitioner and OD specialist for several organisations including Swiss Re, Vodafone and BAA. Prior to her HR career, she was a management consultant with Deloitte Consulting and is also a qualified solicitor. Gillian has written various CRF reports on subjects including HR strategy, organisation design and development, leadership development, coaching and diversity.

Sarah Toms
Chief Innovation Officer, IMD Business School
Sarah Toms is Chief Innovation Officer at IMD. She leads information technology, learning innovation, Strategic Talent Solutions, and the AI Strategy. A demonstrated thought leader in education innovation, Sarah is passionate about amplifying IMD’s mission to drive positive impact for individuals, organizations, and society.
She previously co-founded Wharton Interactive, an initiative at the Wharton School that has scaled globally. Sarah has been on the Executive Committee of Reimagine Education for almost a decade, and was one of the ten globally to be selected as an AWS Education Champion. Her other great passion is supporting organizations who work to attract and promote women and girls into STEM.
She has spent nearly three decades working at the bleeding edge of technology, and was an entrepreneur for over a decade, founding companies that built global CRM, product development, productivity management, and financial systems. Sarah is also coauthor of The Customer Centricity Playbook, the Digital Book Awards 2019 Best Business Book.
