Event: Beyond Culture – Creating the Conditions for Performance – Zurich
Many culture programmes focus on values, storytelling and communication. However it is often unclear what ‘culture’ means and how culture change initiatives drive performance improvement.
Many culture programmes focus on values, storytelling and communication. However it is often unclear what ‘culture’ means and how culture change initiatives drive performance improvement.
Organisational culture is derived from repeated patterns of behaviour and decision-making, shaped by what leaders consistently reward, tolerate and prioritise and by the systems, incentives and working practices they put in place.
Changing culture therefore means identifying the behaviours that matter most for performance in your context, understanding what reinforces them and focusing on the small number of levers most likely to make a difference. These may include leadership accountabilities, decision-making processes, performance management, incentives, resource allocation, team practices and the design of work.
This event and associated research will examine why culture change often fails, how we can better frame culture initiatives to enable strategy execution and how leaders can create the conditions for different patterns of behaviour to take hold.
Participants will leave with a practical approach to testing assumptions and a number of context-specific interventions to implement in their organisations.
What the event and research will deliver
Participants will:
- Understand how to utilise the science of behaviour change to shape how work is actually done.
- Diagnose how leadership choices, systems and incentives reinforce helpful or unhelpful cultural patterns.
- Identify a small number of context-specific levers with the greatest potential to influence performance.
- Evaluate proposed interventions using evidence, assumptions and likely unintended consequences.
From research to practice
Drawing on research, organisational practice and expert insight, participants will use case studies, practical exercises and peer discussion to assess their current approach, identify where organisational signals may be working against desired behaviours and develop clear priorities for change.
Who is this event for?
Senior HR, Talent, OD and business leaders responsible for culture, organisational effectiveness and performance.
